ELIA Wellness, an initiative of the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SPD Ltd), is seeking a passionate and mission‑aligned Exercise Physiologist to join its Lifestyle Medicine Centre team on a part-time (12hpw) basis located within the Sydney Adventist Hospital, 

ELIA exists to empower people to whole-person health by preventing and managing disease through lifestyle medicine, evidence-based programs, and community education. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneering Lifestyle Medicine Centre making a meaningful impact on chronic disease prevention and reversal.

About the Role

As the Exercise Physiologist, you will provide high‑quality exercise and physical activity consultations, complete relevant assessments, and develop targeted exercise prescriptions within our lifestyle medicine model. You will collaborate closely with the Medical Director and Lifestyle Medicine Doctor, support clinical research, and contribute to innovative program development.

You will also play an active role in education and health promotion through workshops, webinars, and community initiatives that amplify whole‑person health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient consultations, including history-taking, physical examination, and exercise-specific assessments.
  • Develop and implement exercise programs tailored to chronic disease management.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and Lifestyle Medicine Doctor for relevant clinical investigations (e.g., stress tests, VO₂ max, lung function testing).
  • Participate in shared medical appointments and generate clinical reports.
  • Support research and innovation activities within the Lifestyle Medicine Centre.
  • Assist in developing educational programs and resources.
  • Contribute to health promotion activities for patients, staff, and the community.
  • Uphold and promote the Adventist whole-person health philosophy and ELIA Wellness mission.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Supportive of the mission, values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Alignment with ELIA Wellness and Adventist whole-person health philosophy.
  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as an Exercise Physiologist and relevant vocational qualifications.
  • Strong understanding of exercise in chronic disease management and reversal.
  • Ability to adapt exercise therapy models to different medical conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and harmoniously within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of whole-food, plant-based nutrition principles.
  • Commitment to practising and promoting whole‑person health consistent with the ELIA Wellness philosophy (www.eliawellness.com).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary model involving nursing and allied health staff.
  • Openness to participating in ongoing education and research activities.
  • Commitment to upholding patient privacy and confidentiality with the ability to deliver care that is respectful and sensitive to people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Current Working With Children Check and unrestricted Australian work rights.
  • Ability to meet Sydney Adventist Hospital WHS requirements in accordance with NSW Health guidelines.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience delivering lifestyle medicine programs or community health initiatives.
  • Lifestyle medicine health qualifications and/or board certification, or willingness to undertake further study in this field.
